Grades 3–12
English & Writing Tutoring
Reading comprehension, essay structure, and finding an actual voice on the page.
English tutoring sessions usually start with a specific piece of writing — an assigned essay, a reading response, a personal statement — rather than a worksheet, because that's what's actually being graded.
What a tutor actually does with a draft
- Reads the draft before the session and marks it up: what's working, what's unclear, what the argument is missing.
- Walks through the marks live with the student, asking questions rather than rewriting sentences for them.
- Helps restructure at the paragraph or argument level first, then moves to sentence-level clarity and grammar.
- For college essays, keeps the student's own voice as the non-negotiable constraint — the goal is a stronger version of what they wrote, not a tutor's version.
